Junglee

Problem: Junglee.com is a sister site to the Amazon.in site in India. It started out as a price comparison engine, but went through several iterations trying to help Amazon capitalize on the growing Indian e-commerce market.

My Role(s): I was hired into the group as a senior designer. After a few months I became design lead on the Junglee Seattle team. We had a corresponding team in Bangalore with whom we worked tightly. I oversaw a team of two designers and several contractors in Seattle plus one researcher in India. I was promoted to manager at the end of 2014. It became obvious to me that my role would be better served in India, so I (reluctantly) put myself out of a job and moved to another team in Amazon.

Results: We launched multiple projects on the site, from concept to weblab to launch. As part of the Search and Discover leadership team here in Seattle - consisting of Tech, PM and UX - we managed and prioritized intake of new projects from both Bangalore and Seattle. I managed folks both here and in India. I started the research program for Junglee - at first working with vendors and then helped hire our first few internal team members.

Face-outs

How this was used: Showing both new and used products on a website was a new experience in India and finding the right balance of information for the uninformed Indian customer proved tricky.
Happy to show you these in person.

Happy to show you these in person.

How this was used: We did a number of iterative explorations to better define the value proposition of Junglee as it compared to Amazon.in.
Happy to show you these in person.
