Kindle Design Principles

Problem: In the Kindle Content team there was no common understanding of how we design. Each group in Kindle had their own take on what was good design.

My Role(s):  I developed my ideas and shopped them around to Kindle marketing, special projects, reader and others. Eventually this was noticed by the Kindle design team, who as it happened, was working on a similar project.

Results: I worked with partner teams and integrated my concepts into theirs. In addition to each principle we codified both our Amazon view as well as a Customer view and simplified our ideas into principles that would act as a common guide across all Kindle projects. The final product was used to align different teams working on kindle and consolidate design patterns & styles.

Combining our Ideas

How this was used: This was the working document used to gain consensus on the team. We went through multiple versions before arriving at the final wording.

The Design Principles

How this was used: The principles served as guide for future design decisions and a poster of the principles was created by one of the VX designers and it was hung on the walls in multiple buildings as a learning tool.
